ACCESSIBILITY

FilmScene Strives to be a Space for Everyone

FilmScene is committed to creating a welcoming, safe, and accessible space for all. All of our theaters are accessible by either ramps or elevators. All are also equipped with assistive listening headphones, closed captioning receivers, and closed captioning glasses.

Icons on each film's page will indicate what assistive features are available. Our box office staff can instruct guests on how to use the devices. Both locations are staffed one hour prior to the first showtime of the day. Should you need additional assistance over the phone, please call (319) 358-2555 or email us at boxoffice@icfilmscene.org.

Open Captions

When available, we are happy to offer Open Captions screenings for select new releases, including at least one Open Caption screening every Sunday afternoon and all shows for FilmScene in the Park. Open Captions are a text display of the words, sounds, and speakers' names in a movie, visible on the screen for everyone to see.

Visit our Open Captions page for a list of upcoming Open Captions showtimes.

Closed Captions

During select features, Closed Captions can be displayed via a receiver placed in your cup holder. Simply push the base down into the cup holder and adjust the display into your field of vision. The text displays as white and will not appear until the film begins.

Look for the Closed Caption icon on film pages to see which films have this option available.

Audio Description

Using an Assisted Listening device, audience members can experience visually descriptive narration that describes what is happening on screen, including physical actions, facial expressions, costumes, settings, and scene changes. Through headphones or another device, this audio  is balanced with the film's audio so both are heard clearly.

Look for the Audio Description icon on film pages to see which films have this option available.

Assisted Listening

Using a small receiver that can be obtained at the box office, the audio track of any film can be broadcast into a set of headphones or your personal device. Some films offer a specific track for this service, but our audio system will create a track for all films. These devices also come with an induction loop for hearing aids.

Assisted Listening is available for all films.
