Technicolor of Love

About the Series

The Technicolor process began in 1916 with a two color red and green system using filters. The process quickly evolved and went through two additional phases before 1932, when the most commonly known Technicolor process, Three-strip Technicolor, was born. Using three strips of black and white film in a single camera with a beam splitter to separate the light spectrum accordingly (red, blue, and green) and a dye transfer of the three resulting negatives printed on a single clear strip of black-and-white film with the soundtrack, this process became the standard-bearer for color in Hollywood's Golden Age. This distinctive look lasted just over two decades, with the process being phased out in 1955. Fall in love with that unmistakable look in these beautiful romances that exemplify just how entrancing our colorful world can be.
