About the Series

On January 14, 1975 the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) officially ended, putting the nail in the coffin on the Hollywood Blacklist that came along with it. 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of that day, and with book bans and looming threats to freedom of artistic expression, we're taking this opportunity to look back at the artists whose work was threatened during the Red Scare of McCarthyism—artists who not only persisted but found a community to support their visions, creating some of the most impactful films of their times.
