About the Series

In this series we invite you to take a trip with us as we explore classic train movies of the 30s and 40s that will have you on the edge of your seat and rolling in the aisles. And look out for more train fun in both of our outdoor series, new first run films, and an anniversary celebration of Richard Linklater's Before Trilogy.

Choo Choo! By the turn of the twentieth century, the train was more than just a mode of transport, it was a product of the Industrial Age that ushered in the dawn of a new era. The advent of cinema was not far behind. It's no wonder that filmmakers of the time were obsessed with the locomotive, from the Lumière Brothers' The Arrival of a Train to Edwin S. Porter's The Great Train Robbery. This fascination lingered past the early twentieth century to pre-Code thrillers, the birth of the screwball comedy, and into today.
