"A powerful and persuasive look at an ethnic community and what makes it tick -- funky, entertaining, packed with insight, and political in the best, most responsible sense."—Jonathan Rosenbaum, Chicago Reader
It's the hottest day of the summer, and the wall at Sal's Pizzeria in Bed–Stuy has just become a boiling point for the community. Tensions are high for the cast of colorful characters—Mookie, Tina, Buggin Out, Radio Raheem, Da Mayor, Mother Sister, Mister Señor Love Daddy, Sal, Pino, Vito, and the rest—on the block when Sal refuses to put up photos of any Black celebrities, and as the temperature rises, hostility threatens to break out along racial lines. Spike Lee's classic embodies the contemporary issues of the time with style, humor, and humanity that still resonate today.
