In Mike Nichols' adaptation of Joseph Heller's seminal 1961 novel, Alan Arkin stars as Captain John Yossarian, a pilot stationed in the Mediterranean during World War II. In an attempt to cope with the horrors of war, he attempts to have himself declared insane. But his struggle with bureaucracy is just as maddening. With an ensemble cast including Orson Welles, Richard Benjamin, and Art Garfunkel, Catch-22 is a biting satire about the ways military superpowers drive their soldiers to the brink.
